4 Props You Should Bring To Your Personal Brand Photoshoot
The goal of personal brand photography is to produce pictures that effortlessly communicate your essence and how it manifests in your small business or brand. This is where props come in: props can do a lot of heavy lifting when it comes to conveying what you specialize in, who you are, and how you do business.
Here are 4 props that I recommend my clients to bring for their personal brand photography photoshoot.
#1 Tools Of The Trade
Something simple that symbolizes your personal brand can be such an asset when creating personal brand photographs. It instantly communicates what you do to the viewer, and shows that you’re enthusiastic about, and proud of your work. If you’re a photographer, your camera (think about how you see me showing up online!); hairdresser, maybe shears; a personal trainer, maybe weights; a painter, a paintbrush and smock…. You get the idea. Together, we’ll work to integrate these tools in a fun, natural, and professional way. Nothing too cheesy, I promise!
#2 Laptop, Phone, or Journal
In other words, the tools of your business. Now that we’ve established what work you do, how do you go about running your business? Show the world that you’re organized, communicative, and thoughtful. Note: only bring the ones that apply to you! No need to take a photo of you journaling in a Moleskin if you’re more of a notes app gal instead. This is about gaining insight into you and your small business, authentically.
#3 Favorite Beverage
Iced coffee, tea, a cocktail? Depending on your businesses, any one of these (and more!) could be a great fit. The “coffee shot” is relatable, and a great way to imbue a more casual, relaxed vibe to your pictures. Let your personality shine and make prospective clients want to grab a drink with you!
#4 People and Pets
Do you have kiddos or a beloved dog? If you do, take that opportunity to showcase how you relate to and interact with others. Especially if these people are a big part of your life.
We can and will work together on what props will be the most dynamic additions to your specific shoot, but I hope this guide has been some good food for thought.
