How To Prepare For A Successful Brand Photoshoot

The big photoshoot day is almost here! Soon enough, you’ll have photos that can be put to use in a variety of ways. We’ve worked together to create a shot list and mood board, as well as discussed some props that you might want to bring. There’s not much left to do except to relax and enjoy the ride.

However, if you’re anything like me, that may be easier said than done... So, for my over-planners out there (where are you guys at?!), here are some foolproof tips to get you ready for our brand photoshoot together.

Outfits

Choosing the right outfit or outfits can be daunting. To avoid over complication, try thinking about it in three simple ways: color, fit, and vibe.

  • Color: White, grays, neutrals and pops of seasonal (or your brand’s) colors will look great on camera. Lightweight layers (e.g., jackets) add nice variety and elevate your appearance. I personally recommend avoiding reds and oranges, as they can reflect an unflattering hue on your skin.

  • Fit: Does the fit convey your professional persona? Something ill-fitting or wrinkled may evoke feelings of unprofessionalism or sloppiness, so it’s important to take into consideration how a garment falls on you, or wears throughout the day. Bonus tip: Don’t forget to iron the night before, or better yet, wear wrinkle-resistant fabrics like a cotton/polyester blend.

  • Vibe: Does the vibe match your brand? If you’re a fitness professional, ditch the formal wear for your nicest workout gear. Branding photos are about showcasing your authentic personality. Make it easier for prospective clients to trust your experience by looking the part.

This should go without saying, but whatever you wear should make you feel like an absolute rockstar- less time worrying about your outfit means more time confidently expressing yourself through pictures.

Consider Where/How You’ll Be Using These Photos

Are these pictures for Facebook and Instagram? Or are you using these primarily for a brochure or pamphlet? Do we need to leave space for a marketing team to create mixed media? While many photos can be used for both mediums, having an end goal in mind is prudent during pre-shoot strategy planning.

Here’s a great example of how BedMart used one of our photos to create a mixed media post for Instagram.

Strike A Pose.

While it is my job to capture you authentically and sometimes spontaneously, the more you know about yourself in pictures, the more triumphant our shoot will be! For example, if you know you feel absolutely invincible from a certain angle, that confidence will only add to the overall success of our time together.

Take Care Of Yourself

Rest up, hydrate, and pamper. Invest in a new pair of shoes. Book a manicure. Spend a few extra minutes on your hair and skin*. Play your favorite song on the drive to our location! We’re about to have a great day together. *Pro-tip: though it’s tempting, try not to use any new makeup or skincare products the week of our shoot. You never know how your skin might react, so it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Attitude Is Everything

Here’s the thing: you’re the boss AND the talent so bring your happiest, most confident attitude. You’ll notice that’s my MO on shoot day, too. If you’re stressing about something or sweating it from rushing out the door, it’ll show in your photos. Give yourself an extra 30 minutes to get ready or stay ahead of traffic. You’ve got this.

As always, I’m here to help you every step of the way (and have some fun while we’re shooting). I look forward to working together to take your brand to the next level.

Let’s do this.
