Bethany Village and COVID-19: how you can shop local and support small businesses right now
As a business branding photographer and loyal patron of Bethany Village on the west side of Portland, I've personally been wondering which storefronts are open, how the small business owners are doing, and how our community can support them. Bethany Village is aaaaamazing and a huge perk to why we moved to Bethany 5 years ago.
I really admire human grit, tenacity, and passion; all of which lie within the heart of a small biz owner. With the COVID-19 pandemic deeply impacting local small businesses, I wanted to help using two of my favorite tools: story-telling and photography.
In a time where folks are seeking connection, these folks are here and ready to continue serving their community.
Here are the humans behind their small businesses and storefronts, and how you can help! If you live in Bethany, you definitely recognize these establishments. If you don’t live close to Bethany Village, do me a big favor and make a goal to only shop local to your neighborhood this week :)
After all, when you shop local, you’re helping another human and putting money back into your own neighborhood!
Bloom + Fleur
What are your current storefront hours?Online 24/7 and a discounted contactless delivery service Tuesday -Saturdays! Pick up orders (outside store) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 11am - 1pm.
What are your open services?Bouquets, arrangements, the popular flower club (the BFF club), other subscriptions, gifts and working with no-contact elopements.
How can patrons support you?“By being patient with the process as vendors are slowly opening back up for us to source flowers better. Also, spreading the word or sending a bouquet helps us so much, and the flower farmers we buy from. Mother’s Day is coming and we are using the sales as our way to keep going to invest back into the business from lost sales when the shut down started. We haven’t been able to get much funding if any, so we are focusing on Mother’s Day as our nice push and saving grace.” ~Samantha, owner.
Anything else you want to mention?“We can help customize flower subscriptions if you want to gift it for someone (Mom!) so they can try it out and not feel locked in. Same for our BFF club, and any subscriptions: we never want you to feel stuck in our membership. It’s supposed to be fun and a break from the stress.” ~Samantha, owner.
Cloverdilly Kids
What are your current storefront hours? Tues-Sat 10-3pm.
What are your open services? Online shopping, curbside pick up, virtual personal shopping appointment (one on one shopping via video chat), and free local delivery (within 1 mile).
How can patrons support you? “Shopping online or booking a personal shopping appointment.” ~Emily, owner.
Anything else you want to mention?”Putting out spring styles now, all great items at decent prices and can ship if not within delivery area. [We] also have gift cards to buy now use later.” ~Emily, owner.
Bethany Public House
What are your current storefront hours? FULL menu available daily 12pm-8pm via curbside pickup and delivery!
How can patrons support you? You can place your order online, Door Dash or call (971) 371-2954. If this line is busy, please call (971) 533-6111. You'll have the option for takeout, curbside pick up, or delivery.

Cup & Cone
What are your current storefront hours? Temporarily Closed but actively seeking nominations for monthly Project (N)ice Cream.
What are your open services? While waiting to reopen, C&C is still producing pints for large orders and selling pints on specific days of the month. Follow their social platforms for more info! The next to-go day is Friday, May 8th!

Bethany Optical
What are your current storefront hours? Monday-Thursday 10:00-4:00.
What are your open services? Emergency exams. Contact lens purchasing. Glasses purchasing.

Bethany Physical Therapy
What are your current storefront hours? Monday-Friday, 930-630 T/W/TH, and 715-415 Saturdays. We are here six days a week to meet all of your consistent health care needs.
What are your open services? “We provide outpatient orthopedic physical therapy for all musculoskeletal issues that result in aches and pains and limit you from doing what you love to do. From injuries at our workstations all the way to recreational and elite athletes, we treat the spectrum of injuries from head to toe.
We also specialize in pelvic floor therapy. This includes for urinary and bowel issues, pelvic pain, care for our pregnant mamas all throughout their phases of pregnancy and post-partum, and children that are having issues with potty training, constipation, etc.
We have step down programs and also offering virtual personal training for those that want to continue their fitness. The list of conditions goes on and on that we treat! We have both in person and virtual options to meet the needs of each client.” Jess, owner.
How can patrons support you? “We have direct access in the State of Oregon, which means you can simply come to a physical therapist if you have a musculoskeletal issue. This will help reduce the overload onto our hospitals, so supporting our community by having a physical therapist evaluate your aches and pains is an effective way to help the community.

Anything else you want to mention? “You will see us wearing masks and have some available for your appointment if you do not have your own handmade mask! We offer birthing preference plans for our pregnant moms to give them confidence in a healthy baby, healthy mom pregnancy! We specialize in getting your core stronger and use advanced ultrasound imaging to do so! For anyone in the community needing assistance buying groceries, running errands, we would be happy to help support you!” Jess, owner.
Piccolo Mondo Toys
What are your current storefront hours? Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm, Sunday 11am-4pm.
What are your open services? “Customers can shop with us by phone, online, Facebook, Instagram, FaceTime and Messenger. We are offering curbside pickup on any order, free local delivery for orders over $25 and always complimentary gift wrapping.” Michelle, owner.
How can patrons support you? “Our community can support us by telling their friends and family that we are still open. Purchase birthday gifts or gift cards at our store for their kids or others. Please let my team know that you appreciate their service as they are working hard to help bring joy to children. What are your current storefront hours? Tuesday - Saturday, 11am to 8pm.
What are your open services? Take out, pick up, order in, order online, call in orders.

Tesori Gifts
What are your current storefront hours/days? “10am-2pm Monday-Saturday. You can come in the store to shop or book an appointment. We are set up in accordance with the OSA standards. Along with many other safety steps we are limiting to 1-3 people in the store, 6 foot safe-distancing markers are displayed and we sanitizing after each customer.” ~Char, owner.
What services are you currently providing? ”We are offering curbside pickup and free Portland and surrounding areas delivery. You can shop online at www.tesoriportland.com. You can also shop via Zoom call or text if you see something on our Facebook or Instagram pages. For just $5 we will mail a greeting card out for you. We have all varieties, Birthday, Graduation, Miss you, Thank you, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day.” ~Char, owner.
How can patrons best support you?”We honestly just need customers. We have soaps, candles, lotions for everyday use. We look for gift items such as Whimsy Chocolates that are local and support other local companies. Along with us they support 3 other companies-Whimsey Chocolate-Jacobsen Salts-Bee Local Honey with just one purchase. We work with Sock it to Me Socks and they are supporting the frontline works with a sock drive. We just love our local gift shop and being part of the community. We have our favorites like Michel Design Works, Voluspa Candles, Lollia Hand Cream and The Republic of Tea. A goal our ours is to find fun and functional items for that hard to buy for family member or friend.” ~Char, owner.
Anything else you'd like to mention? “For Mother’s Day May 10th, we have some great prepacks set up ranging from $25-$60. We have a wide variety of necklaces and earrings. Two of our jewelry companies are local Bethany Artists.” ~Char, owner.
