Portland in Pictures: Photojournalism During the Time of COVID-19
A lot has happened since Feb 28th, when Oregon confirmed its first case of COVID-19. It kind of feels like a lifetime ago.
Today, grocery stores are still out of staples like flour. Businesses are pivoting to delivery and online services. Folks are working from home. The streets are quiet. The occasional pedestrian is strolling by… in a mask. Storefronts are locked and many are boarded up. Being in public now means face masks, gloves, and social distancing. Greetings are air high-fives and head nods. It’s a constant game of veering off the sidewalk, into the grass or onto the street, to maintain 6’ from another human.
I went for a walk to see how our city looks in the time of coronavirus. With permission from each friendly stranger, here is what I saw.
The new uniform whenever out in public: a bandana mask and gloves.

Far fewer pedestrians out and about, and the majority wear face masks.
Most establishments have some kind of note of solidarity and support on their windows.
