How to Create a Personal Brand
The idea of creating a personal brand can seem daunting, or even lofty, but in actuality, it’s not that complicated.
Let me break it down.
What is a personal brand?
Your personal brand is really just your story. It’s the story you want to tell the public. It’s how you articulate who you are in a professional, and relatable way online and in marketing materials.
Why is having a personal brand important?
Your personal brand is what makes people want to work with you, want to follow you, and stay up-to-date with your latest services.
How do I create a personal brand?
Start with this equation:
Who you are + What you sell + Your mission or unique outlook = your personal brand
So, if I were to fill in this in, it would look like:
I’m a PhD chemist and entrepreneur that specializes in brand photography and deeply believes people connect with the candid human over stale professional images every time.
If you follow me on instagram, you can see how I use this equation to bring my personal brand to life. For example…
As long as I make an effort to consistently hit the who and what behind my business plus my unique outlook and mission, my personal brand falls into place.
As you’ve probably noticed, the most efficient way to communicate your personal brand is through business branding photography and visual assets. By scrolling through your feed, or your website, the pictures you’ve selected can tell a prospective client a lot about who you are as a person and brand!
Have you selected standard corporate headshots? Or have you selected vibrant photos showcasing you on the job, serving clients, or out and about in your community?
Your Homework
Look at your most used social channel. *Try* and be objective and put yourself in the mindset of a prospective client who’s never seen your page before. What are 3 words that you would use to describe your page?
Are these the words you would want a prospective client to think of when discovering you?
