What not to wear for headshots

Having a professional headshot is essential to make a good first impression in today's world, especially if you're in a career that requires networking or personal branding.

A high-quality headshot can help you stand out from the crowd and showcase your personality and professionalism. Additionally, a portfolio of personalized, professional headshots can be used across multiple platforms like your LinkedIn, social media, business cards, and websites making it a worthwhile investment in your personal brand.

We’ve talked about what you should wear for headshots, but what about what you should NOT wear when getting professional headshots taken?

Here’s what NOT to wear for headshots:

  • Busy patterns

  • Large logos

  • Anything too revealing

  • Wrinkled clothes

  • Dirty shoes

  • Massive earrings

  • Anything that doesn’t make you feel like the boss that you are

I’m of the mindset that it’s my/your headshot photographer’s job to help you feel comfortable and confident on camera. If you arrive to your headshot session feeling nervous, that’s totally okay. Part of the headshot experience with EFP is walking through poses and taking time to review and adjust as we go.

Getting to a point during your photoshoot where you are showing off your authentic, genuine energy is so much more important than what you wear… but it doesn’t hurt to avoid certain things, too.

Ultimately, the goal is to keep the focus on your personality, vibe, and unique features.
